TONIGHT: Free Winter Solstice Yoga to benefit River House

Winter Solstice Celebration – FREE Candlelit Yoga with Patty Clark!

Date: Wednesday, December 21st
Time: 6:00pm – 7:30pm
Location: Higgins Lake studio (Gerrish Township Municipal Building)

Everyone is invited to join in a candlelit yoga practice, that will include both active (yang) and restorative (yin) poses with seasoned yoga teacher, Patty Clark. It will also include breath work and meditation to cultivate balance as we honor our connection to this season. We’ll end the evening socializing with ginger cookies and yogi tea. This is a free class, and donations will be accepted to benefit the River House Inc., a non-profit agency that serves victims and survivors of domestic and sexual abuse in four northern Michigan counties.

About Patty

Patty recently moved to Grayling full-time from lower Michigan. She is, among other things, a yoga teacher, nature lover, and wise, kind spirit. Her teaching style is light-hearted, sincere, and easy to understand, and reflects a deep understanding of yoga on both a physical and spiritual level. We are beyond excited to have Patty graciously teach this very special Solstice class, and share her nearly 20 years as a yoga teacher with our community. Below is her bio, written in her words. Let’s give her a warm welcome!

Patty Clark

Just pay attention to your breath and notice what’s going on inside you without feeling like you have to change it, just sit with yourself”.  These were my father’s words to me as he taught me at age 10 the practice of pranayama and meditation.  He wasn’t a yoga teacher but a vice cop who taught himself what seemed like a natural response to the stresses in his life.  This was the catalyst and introduction to what has been and continues to be an incredible journey.

Diagnosed with degenerative disc disease at age 15,  I came to asana as way to manage pain. I became certified in 1999 when I completed Jonny Kest’s Center for Yoga Teacher Training.  Since then, I’ve taught over  1,000 hours and am registered with the Yoga Alliance as an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, ERYT.  Initially, I founded Dragonfly Yoga in Cleveland, OH.  My teaching included all levels and conditions of student’s at my studio as well as The Cleveland Clinic Foundation and University Hospitals.  I most recently taught classes and workshops throughout Northern Oakland County, MI and I have hosted amazing river/yoga retreats in Grayling, MI.

I’ve been fortunate to study, practice and be inspired by teachers locally and nationally.  I’ve also learned so much from my students as well as self study. My biggest influences are Patanjali, Sarah Powers, Donna Farhi, Judith Lasater,  Bob Marley, Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra and Mother Nature.
