Winter Workshop Series starts Sunday, February 14th!

We are so excited to announce our first ever Winter Workshop Series! Join us for three great workshops to get you through the end of winter. They are:

Sunday, February 14th: Sun Salutations & The Eight Limbs of Yoga
4:00pm – 5:30pm – Lexi Bondar – Grayling Studio – $20

This workshop will take a close look at how to practice the Sun Salutation – a key tenant in Hatha yoga – with safety and ease. Lexi will break down Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar) A and B, including variations and modifications of both. This workshop will emphasize alignment, and include a detailed, step-by-step discussion and demonstration of how to practice Sun Salutations with good technique to build strength and avoid injury. Students will have the chance to develop consistency and confidence in practicing these heat building and effective yoga poses and movements. There will be ample time for questions. Following the Asana portion of the workshop will be a philosophical discussion on the eight limbs of Yoga (Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samhadi), which form the foundation of the all-encompassing Yoga practice. All levels welcome!

Sunday, February 28th: Core Essentials & Equanimity
4:00pm – 5:30pm – Mariah Frye Colie – Grayling Studio – $20

Learn how to use your core more effectively in your yoga practice, and in life! In this workshop, Mariah will break down the various muscle groups that comprise the core (spoiler alert: it’s more than just your abdominals!). Students will learn how to use their core with efficiency and precision in their yoga practice, from basic standing poses to balancing poses and more. This will not be a Core Yoga class, but rather an interactive workshop to help improve the understanding of what our core is, how to use it, and how to strengthen it. Following the Asana practice will be a discussion on the yogic concept of equanimity, and how we can use it to live a more meaningful, less stressful life. All levels welcome.

Sunday, March 20th: Live Music Practice & Sound Meditation
4:00pm – 5:30pm – Mariah Frye Colie & Radel Rosin – Grayling Studio – $20

Connect to your inner self in this asana practice and live music combo! In this workshop, students will experience the tremendous potential of sound, our most powerful sense, to relax their bodies and minds. Musician Radel Rosin will accompany an asana practice lead by Mariah, which will conclude with a prolonged savasana. A meditation practice will follow, and it too will be guided by the deep and calming vibrational effects of sound. Join us for this very special workshop! All levels welcome.

3 Workshop Special: Sign up for all 3 Workshops for just $45!

Preregistration is recommended but not required for any of these workshops. Email mariahfrye@gmail.com, call 989-302-7928, or tell one of your instructors that you would like to attend.

Hope to see you! Namaste.

Schedule Updates

Hello, friends!

As February approaches, we are making a couple of schedule changes for the rest of the winter. First of all, we are very excited to offer a new class called Hatha II on Thursday evenings at 5:30pm in Higgins Lake. This class will replace Slow Flow/Yin, but will be taught at the same “level”; it will not be any more or less challenging, and will basically include less Yin poses while still offering plenty of seated and/or restorative poses that will help foster deep relaxation. Here is the full class description:

Like Hatha Yoga, Hatha II will be a mildly paced yoga class that will include standing poses, seated poses, reclined poses, and balancing poses, designed to increase flexibility, improve balance, and encourage body awareness and relaxation. Hatha II will also explore a wider array of poses than Hatha Yoga, including mild sun salutations and heat-generating poses (similar to the Slow Flow portion of Slow Flow/Yin) that build strength and cultivate focus. This class will still be taught at “Hatha speed”, with time to adjust and expand within the pose before transitioning to the next. An optional 15 minute meditation follows immediately after the 60 minute class. All levels welcome!

Also, we will be canceling Tuesday morning Core Yoga, effective this coming week. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Lastly, stay tuned for some exciting news about our upcoming Winter Workshop Series! We are finalizing dates and subject matter, and will post the full details very soon.

Love to all!
